How to prepare for drywood termite control fumigation?

  • Language:

Unfortunately, termites attack a large amount of structures each year and in order to exterminate all colonies in the property a structural fumigation needs to be performed. Because of the nature of the toxic gas that will be injected during the drywood termite fumigation process, a number of precautions need to be taken before this starts. This precaution although by many they are seen like a hassle, they are there to protect individuals and their health.

Here is a list of the things that need to be taken into consideration before your fumigation begins. Please remember that all situations and structural fumigations are different, consult your licensed inspector to make sure that you have performed everything that is needed for your specific fumigation.

  • Remove all living creatures including people and pets
  • Remove or double bag all food, feed and drugs including, but not limited to: Tobacco products, Dental floss, aspirins, etc. Items in plastic, glass or metal bottles, cans or jars with the manufacturer’s airtight seal intact can be left at the fumigation site.
  • Items from the refrigerator and freezer need to be removed or double bag. Please be aware that the doors from both of these appliances will be left open during the fumigation process.
  • Remove all ice from the ice dispenser and turn it off.
  • Remove all desirable plants from the inside of the structure, and trim any plants surrounding the structure so that there is a minimum space of 18 inches from the wall to the plant extremities.
  • Remove all waterproof covers from mattresses and pillows. If this is not possible remove the item from the structure.
  • Remove all baby mattresses from the structure.
  • Remove any valuable items. Be aware that due to new California regulations all doors, and opening need to be open during the fumigation process. This includes, but is not limited to all appliances, rooms, garages, safes, sub areas, cabinets, etc.

Please be aware that Nylofume bags are the only type that can be used to double bag your items. Your termite exterminator will provide you with these bags. Follow this list completely to avoid any delays during your fumigation and don’t forget to Ask the Termite Expert any questions that you might have.
