Drywood Termite Control: Weighing All the Options

Drywood termites in San Diego and in California are a wood destroying organism that will infestate your property at one point or another. Many times drywood termites will get inside of your property beyond the point of them being able to be treated locally (Commonly via a Spray Treatments). At that point, the best way to eradicate the problem is to complete a whole house fumigation, which will give the structure a new start by exterminating all drywood termites in it. However, being that the process takes two nights / three days to complete it is a good idea to take the necessary measures to protect your building. Even tough burglaries during fumigations are not very common, they do occur and for that reason you have to be prepared for the worst.
Being that we are only working at the structure for a couple of hours each day, as part of a standard fumigation contract we as well as other Termite Control companies disclose that the properties will not be under constant surveillance. Due to this reason we cannot be responsible for any break-ins or lost/stolen items during the transgression of the process. We will double lock all entries and secure the entire property to the best of our abilities at all times before we leave, but we cannot guarantee that no one will try to go in once we leave. For this reason you will have to be proactive and address any security issues that your specific location might have.
Here are some of the most common things that you can do in order to secure your property to the best of your ability.
- Be there at all times when the crew will be working on the property (When Tenting, Aerating and Clearing the Property)
- Take your important valuables off the property
- Ask neighbors from all sides to look at your house as constant as possible and call you if they see anything strange
- Drive by continuously by your property during the process
- Lock all exterior gates & fences not being used by the fumigators to access your property
- If available, set your home alarm on after the house has been locked. However, do not forget to turn it off before they take the tarps off.
- Post under surveillance signs around the exterior of your property/fence
- Alert your neighborhood surveillance program that your house will be fumigated so they can keep an eye on it.
- Ask your local police department to do more passes during the time that the property is being fumigated, you can usually do this by just giving them a call.
- If available, constantly look at your security cameras to make sure everything is in good state.
- If necessary, hire a private security company to watch over your property during the time that you nor us will be there.
- Make sure that you are covered for a worst case scenario with your home insurance company.
We will at all times try to protect your property to the best of our abilities as well as follow county and state regulations to the line. If you combine that with you becoming proactive and securing the rest of the areas & time, then you will have a very good chance of nothing happening during this process.
I hope that these pointers assist you in successfully securing your property. Please leave any comments, ideas or suggestions below.
